Native Bee House and Bee Waterer Combo

$50.00

Our native bee houses are handmade out of cedar, which is naturally rot-resistant, at our nursery. Some materials are repurposed, although still in excellent condition. Each nesting box is attractive, unique, and designed with bee health as the top priority.

This design combines a small native bee houses containing approximately 50 nesting tubes with a bee waterer. We use paper (or sometimes reed) nesting tubes, not bamboo, which is a poor choice for bee health. The water dish is terracotta and, like any water source being provided for thirsty bees, it should be filled with pebbles so that bees have a landing pad and do not drown in the shallow water. The water dish can be easily removed for cleaning and filling. Care should be taken to not splash water on the paper nesting tubes.

Bee houses (sometimes called bee hotels) support the native bee species that prefer to nest in tube-like structures that naturally occur in the wild. When considering purchasing a nesting box, know that they are not “set it and forget it” – they do require some care, although it is very simple. With a little care and attention, this will be a rewarding and fascinating addition to your habitat.

Best hung in a place that gets morning sun and afternoon shade. Comes with installation and maintenance instructions and a set of replacement nesting tubes.
