Symphyotrichum novae-angliae

Asters are very important fall bloomers of great value to birds and pollinators late in the season when resources become scarce. New England aster is a large, very showy aster that will be covered in many light purple to pink blooms that attract native bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. An important nectar source for monarch butterflies. Its flowers have orange-yellow centers; petals are very slender. Grows in almost any soil. It is drought tolerant, but does require some irrigation in the arid west. Can reseed quite a bit.
