Pearly Everlasting

Anaphalis margaritacea
Pearly everlasting is a butterfly magnet and a host plant for the American lady butterfly and painted lady butterfly. Witness nature at work in the spring when butterfly larva will create webs on the plant and eat the silvery leaves. The plants should bounce back and provide late summer blooms. Flowers are actually yellow, but they appear white because they are surrounded by papery white bracts. Pearly everlasting works well when planted in the front edge of a garden bed. Excellent in dried flower arrangements. Does well in most soil conditions including rocky and very poor soils. Well drained soil is best. Tolerates clay, but does not like wet feet so it should be well drained. Easy, low maintenance, and fascinating.
