Chokecherry is a deciduous shrub or small tree and a top choice habitat plant! Edible berries provide food for a wide range of wildlife. White flowers in early spring are prized by bees. Chokecherry is a host plant for an impressive 261 species of butterflies and moths in western Colorado. Can spread through rhizomes to form dense thickets, creating nest sites for birds. However, it is easily controlled in a garden setting. Edible red berries ripen to black in late summer and make an excellent jelly.
