This warm-season bunchgrass grows actively during summer months. Late-season blooms have a distinctive, oat-like appearance once dried. Can be found in dry grass prairies and pinon-juniper uplands. Provides shelter and seeds for birds. Larval host and food source for caterpillars. Hardy to zone 4.
