Alkali Sacaton

Sporobolus airoides

Alkali sacaton is a warm-season bunch grass (actively growing and green in the warmer, summer months). It has the most beautiful, feathery seedheads ever. It is easy to grow and grows well in most conditions and soils. Alkali sacaton is tolerant of flooding, drought, and saline/alkaline soils. In moist soils, it grows larger. Provides excellent cover for birds and nesting materials for native bees. Host plant for butterflies and moths such as the Sandhill Skipper Butterfly and White-lined Sphinx Moth.
